Info A-l'ecole gîtes en chambres d’hôtes
The pretty village of Saint-Auvent is located in the heart of France in the department of Haute Vienne, Limousin. This beautiful area is named after the river Vienne, which flows through the, green hilly landscape.
At the edge of this village is the old village school on a 4000m² site. On the site you will find two gîtes, two chambres d'hôtes and you could even stay in a luxury tent (yurt). The old barn is now a dining / recreation room for our guests. The third gîte (a former railway signal-house) is located on the edge of the picturesque village of Chaillac-sur-Vienne, surrounded by meadows.
Table d'hôte: In the months of July and August, we will cook 2 nights of the week a dinner for our guests
Saint Auvent
In this typical French village with its narrow streets, an old church and a castle, you will find a small supermarket (with fresh bread) and a bar / restaurant, Auberge De La Vallée De La Gorre. At the Maison de Païs you will find information about the Limousin, its culture and the sights. In St Junien (13 km) and Rochechouart (8 km) there are bigger shops and supermarkets.
Chaillac-sur-Vienne
In this village (13 km from Saint Auventh), my French adventure began in 1993. Together with my brother I bought the old railway signal-house. After a total renovation, we have had manty happy times for more than 12 years. We also want to give others the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful place. There are no shops in the village itself, but the town of Saint Junien is 3.5 km away.
Area
Saint Junien has a charming shopping street with little independent shops, some big supermarkets, a Tourist Office and every Saturday there is a market with local products. In the beautiful town of Rochechouart you will find a supermarket and a pretty town-centre with shops, restaurants and cafés. As soon as you leave your holiday home, you will find one of the hundreds of country roads that meander through the hilly landscape. Old stone bridges lead you across the numerous streams that cross your path. The forests are dominated by the many native chestnut trees, and in the pastures sheep and caramel-coloured Limousin cows are soothing to gaze at. The sleepy villages you pass through are not yet overwhelmed by tourists and you can breathe the atmosphere of the authentic French countryside. You will find that sometimes you can drive miles without encountering anyone.
Activities
There is a variety of activities in the Haute Vienne, for young and old and for all tastes. You can bike there (think of the rolling hills!), Hiking on one of the many hiking trails. Horse riding, golf, tennis, swimming ( there are several very lovely lakes) and canoeing. In addition, you can visit art gallery`s (Brocantes) vintage and antique markets in the area. You can see art at the museum of Lac de Vassivière or go back in history at the very moving memorial to WW1 in the preserved village of Oradour sur Glane. The capital of the Limousin - Limoges - is famous for its porcelain and is definitely worth a visit. About 100 km south, you will find the beautiful capital of the Dordogne, Perigueux. The fascinating Futuroscope is 150 km north. For the kids there are adventure parks, climbing parks, a zoo, donkey rides. In short, too much to mention right now. We have extensive information / leaflets for you to browse through.
